1. In Brief

Sandy white beaches surround the coastline of Greece and its 1,400 islands. These fabulous blue, sparkling waters make for perfect snorkelling and water sport conditions. The islands are the most popular Greek destinations, especially in summer. Big or tiny, green or rocky, ideal for cosmopolitan or relaxing vacations, one thing is for sure: all these islands have the necessary requirements and facilities to offer you a memorable trip! Greece’s ancient and long lasting history is another huge pull for tourists, with the archaeological ruins that still stand gloriously depicting the country’s magnificent history.

Windsurfing is becoming more and more popular across Europe and with this course you will be able to stand up with the best of them! Whether you’re pretty confident on the water, or a complete beginner, this course is ideal for you and will allow you to hone your skills and perfect your style.

2. The project

This course is an introduction to the adrenaline sport of windsurfing. It is an intensive two week programme, ideal if you are considering taking your skills up to instructor level in the future.

You are taught alongside trainee instructors so you can be sure of picking up top tips from the professionals. Learning to windsurf opens up a whole world of exhilaration – and we promise to get you up on the board enjoying your time on the water as quickly as possible.

You start by learning to control the board and sail. We teach you how to steer, to turn around and to come back to where you started. After a day or two of good instruction you will be sailing confidently in light winds.

This is more than a windsurfing experience. You also have the opportunity to attend theory classes to learn all the stuff that instructors need to know.

The focus is then on improving and consolidating your skills, fine tuning the basics to make your windsurfing faster, more fluid and definitely more fun.

The second week concentrates on a series of specialist techniques including harness work and beach starts. You will improve your tacks and gybes and start using the footstraps.

You can expect to experience an introduction to planing and stronger wind techniques – and the real buzz comes when you get the board planing and start enjoying speed.

3. What to expect

You will be met at Preveza airport by a friendly Frontier representative and will be transported to your accommodation, allowing you plenty of time to rest and get to know your housemates.

The course location is justly famed as one of Europe’s top windsurfing spots and training with Frontier puts you right at the centre of the action. Your accommodation is at a simple guesthouse, in the perfect position between the village and the beach, with a large courtyard for al fresco dining. The house has 14 twin-bedded rooms, each with balcony and private shower. There are simple, shared kitchens and laundry facilities. Upgrade to single occupancy on request for an additional charge.

Food is not provided as part of this programme. Catering for yourself is a fun element of travelling away from home as it gives you that added freedom and is a good opportunity to bond with fellow travellers while exploring local restaurants and market stalls! Tantalise your taste buds with Greece’s Mediterranean cuisine bursting with flavours. Order a Meze to taste lots of small dishes including lamb kebabs, patitsio and moussaka accompanied by lots of warm pitta bread and tasty Tzatziki, all washed down with Greece’s infamous Ouzo liqueur.

Depending on your destination country and your country of origin, you might require a visa. Please see the appropriate country consular website for details or contact our affiliate visa consultancy service. Please note that your visa will usually start on the date that you enter the destination country regardless of when it was issued. Please check with the relevant embassy or high commission. If you are purchasing your visa or paying entry/exit fees in-country you will probably need to pay in US Dollars. If you have any questions please consult the relevant embassy or high commission. You'll need to buy appropriate travel insurance covering your participation on the project. You won't be able to go without the right travel insurance so double check to avoid disappointment. Please make sure that you're covered for the whole duration of your trip – from the day you leave the UK to the day you return. It's also best to get your travel insurance at the same time as paying the deposit for your project. Depending on your policy, this will cover you for any unexpected cancellations.

Your insurance should include the following:

  • Medical cover, including medical emergencies and medical evacuations (up to USD$3,000,000 / GBP£2,000,000);
  • Personal liability (up to USD$1,500,000 / GBP£1,000,000);
  • Cancellation and curtailment of your trip (up to the value of your project contribution).

If you are going to be scuba diving you should get coverage for scuba diving up to 30m, including hyperbaric therapy treatment (unlimited). You should consider obtaining insurance to cover you for any additional activities which you plan to do during, before, or after your Frontier project. We recommend that you obtain cover for your baggage and personal effects.

Frontier Partner Projects and Frontier group projects are run in partnership with in-country NGOs, small community based organisations, local research institutes, academic organisations and conservation agencies. Project descriptions and information are supplied directly by our partners or field staff and are accurate at time of publishing.

We aim to keep information up to date and accurate, however, the nature of our projects and in particular the fact that they are constantly evolving and developing in response to changing needs means that project activities, travel schedules, tour itineraries and daily timetables can change overnight and without notice.
