WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE?
You will be collected from Entebbe airport by one of our friendly representatives and be taken to your project location – a small village south west of Kampala, on the shores of Lake Victoria. Daily transport costs and return to the airport will need to be paid locally.
WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?
Life in the village is simple. You will be provided with shared accommodation, an African style latrine, and a bucket of water for washing! You will also spend time at the project's HQ in the Kampala (the country's capital), where in the volunteer guesthouse, you will have your own room, Western-style bathrooms with electricity and running hot water!
WHAT WILL I BE EATING?
For lunch and dinner, there is a rotating menu of delicious dishes which includes such items as beans, rice, sautéed cabbage, avocado, potatoes, noodles, cooked spinach and sautéed eggplant. Chicken and beef dishes are served several times a week. Starchy foods like white bread, potatoes, white rice, pasta, matoke (boiled bananas) manioc, and cassava are dietary staples so you'll have no shortage of carbs! Look out for the national drink, wagari, which is a type of gin made out of bananas.
