WHAT DOES THE PROJECT DO?

Bangladesh's ever increasing population faces a multitude of problems which are compounded by the effects of globalisation and climate change. About a third of the country floods annually during the monsoon season, hampering economic development and causing epidemics of waterborne diseases. Overcrowding means that many people are forced to live on flood prone land, or in equally unacceptable and debilitating living conditions, leading to a cycle of deprivation and its attendant problems. You can help liberate people from this cycle by volunteering on this programme and contributing to the development of these struggling communities.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

Whilst on your placement, you could take part in a number of ongoing projects aimed at improving basic living conditions for the local community. The main focus of this programme is running a school for 500 underprivileged children, providing them with basic free food and medical treatment. Throughout the year the programme also gets involved within a number of other community development initiatives such as infrastructure projects and may  entail duties ranging from helping build a new medical centre, to setting up a water purification plant for fresh drinking water or working on basic hygeine and health awareness campaigns. Assisting in educational programmes that focus on health and family planning will contribute directly to reducing future overcrowding.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE?

Upon arrival at the airport in Dhaka you will be met and subsequently transfered to your project site.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

Immerse yourself fully within the Bangladeshi community, by staying with local families or living in a volunteer house. This will give you a unique and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to gain an insightful understanding of the true culture of this intriguing country. Your host community will ensure that your stay is both comfortable and exciting, and you may get the chance to experience some of their traditional festivals and customs at first hand.

WHAT WILL I BE EATING?

You will be provided with two meals a day. The food will generally be simple and nutritious, with rice being a staple part of the diet. Vegetarians can easily be catered for, and you will have plenty of opportunity to enjoy the delicious fresh produce available at local markets, or the delicate curries on offer in nearby restaurants, which offer extremely good value meals.

HOW WILL I GET TO WORK?

Accommodation is on site, and your project travel will be entirely catered for. Should you wish to explore further afield, the friendly staff will be happy to help you organise tours and transportation.

A range of cultural and adventure activities are available, and prices can be agreed with local people. Many of these house unique and breathtaking examples of Buddhist and Hindu art and samples of the incredible artisan crafts that contribute a vital and integral part of Bangladesh's culture. Flights

Flights are not included in our project costs. However, Frontier have partnered with an experienced and professional team of travel experts to help our volunteers find the best flight deals for their trips with Frontier. This travel specialist operates in the tailor-made, long haul multi-stop travel market, arranging complex airfares and transfers for independent travellers. They provide expertise, security and a vast product range along with a Travel Butler service which is a single point of contact and support whilst you are overseas.

We recommend that you obtain a quote using the following contact details rather than book online, as our partner will offer you the most competitive fares. To receive your quote or to seek any advice for your flights, please contact Frontier’s dedicated team of travel experts on 0800 082 9994 (or +44 800 082 9994 outside the UK) or email frontier@flightcentre.co.uk .

Visas

For fast, efficient and up-to-date visa advice please contact our recommended visa consultancy partner:

Depending on your destination country and your country of origin, you might require a visa. Please see the appropriate country consular website for details or contact our affiliate visa consultancy service. Please note that your visa will usually start on the date that you enter the destination country regardless of when it was issued. Please check with the relevant embassy or high commission. If you are purchasing your visa or paying entry/exit fees in-country you will probably need to pay in US Dollars. If you have any questions please consult the relevant embassy or high commission. Please check the visa information regularly, as changes often happen without warning.

Insurance

You'll need to buy appropriate travel insurance covering your participation on the project. You won't be able to go without the right travel insurance so double check to avoid disappointment. Please make sure that you're covered for the whole duration of your trip – from the day you leave the UK to the day you return. It's also best to get your travel insurance at the same time as paying the deposit for your project. Depending on your policy, this will cover you for any unexpected cancellations.

Your insurance should include the following:

  • Medical cover, including medical emergencies and medical evacuations (up to USD$3,000,000 / GBP£2,000,000);
  • Personal liability (up to USD$1,500,000 / GBP£1,000,000);
  • Cancellation and curtailment of your trip (up to the value of your project contribution).

If you are going to be scuba diving you should get coverage for scuba diving up to 30m, including hyperbaric therapy treatment (unlimited). You should consider obtaining insurance to cover you for any additional activities which you plan to do during, before, or after your Frontier project. We recommend that you obtain cover for your baggage and personal effects.
