Teaching Abroad
Teaching abroad on your gap year is a great opportunity to gain experience for teaching courses or teaching jobs, while making a valuable contribution to the disadvantaged communities with whom you are living. You do not need any prior experience to teach abroad with Frontier as our teaching projects are designed for people who are teaching for the first time. We'll take you through the basics, when you come to one of our TEFL training days; making sure that you are comfortable with the material at every step of the way.
Different options for teaching abroad
One of the most common choices for those wishing to teach abroad is to teach English as a foreign language (TEFL). This means teaching English within a country where English is not the primary language of the country. On most of our TEFL projects, you can gain a TEFL certificate as a record of your achievement - an impressive addition to your CV if you decide to teach abroad again in the future! More information on teaching English abroad can be found here .
If you want to teach abroad, there are many other options available asides from teaching English. Any skills you have that you can pass on to others will always be greatly appreciated. How about teaching football in Ghana , Senegal or Malawi ? On some of our community projects, you will have the opportunity to teach any subject you have knowledge of such as art, music or even maths! See our list of teaching projects for more details.
A volunteer's account of teaching abroad
"I recently got back from the Cambodia Community Development Project and am now back at university in England and thought I would just send you an email to say that I had a fantastic time on the project. Working on the project was a fantastic experience. Seeing a grass roots NGO in operation was a real eye opening experience, especially as I would like to pursue a career in this field, so the experience was invaluable and my tutors at university have been very impressed with it!"

"So, I've just finished week four and it's hotting up here in Siem Reap (37 degrees this weekend). Time is flying by. I love, love, love it here. The school I'm teaching in is very basic, but the children and the monks are just wonderful - the children make me origami birds out of scrap paper and bring me flowers they've found almost every day - it's just the sweetest thing ever!"
