Training and education are crucial core values of Frontier. Training is given to volunteers, interns, Frontier staff and to our partners and beneficiaries in-country. Our highly qualified UK and field staff teams will ensure that you receive quality training on your project.
Not only can you volunteer abroad with Frontier, but we offer you the opportunitiy to formalise your training with a number of qualifications. Get more out of your gap year, year out or career break with a range of qualifications to suit your career path.
BTEC Qualifications : Frontier offers unique internationally accredited BTEC courses (equivalent to A and AS-levels), the BTEC Advanced Diploma in Tropical Habitat Conservation, the BTEC Advanced Certificate in Tropical Habitat Conservation, and the BTEC Advanced Certificate in Expedition Management.
PADI Dive Training : On marine conservation projects Frontier will train you to PADI Advanced Open Water, and you also have the option to take further courses up to Divemaster.
Teaching English as a Foreign Language : We offer TEFL training and certificates as part of many of our teaching projects.
Field Guide Qualifications: On many of our Africa wildlife projects you can opt to gain the FGASA Field Guide Level 1, the minimum qualification needed to enter the wildlife guiding industry.
If you need evidence of the training you received for employment or university applications our Volunteer Co-ordinator will be happy to provide you with a written reference.
When participating in a Frontier group conservation project you will be given approximately two weeks of intensive field training. This will include lectures, group workshops, demonstrations, and practical assignments, teaching you the following skills:
- Surveying and monitoring
- Species identification
- Trapping and mapping
- Health and safety implications of working in remote locations
The methods and techniques that you learn are constantly monitored and updated to meet scientific advances by our field staff and independent advisors. We continually assess your research skills to ensure the highest scientific rigor is maintained allowing Frontier to publish scientific, peer reviewed literature.
