Dissertations – the product of your own hard work
Whether completing your undergraduate dissertation, your postgraduate research thesis,
or even your A level projects, this is your chance to spend time studying a particular
subject that interests you and show your tutors and future employers what you are
capable of. Chosen carefully, a relevant, topical and challenging dissertation will
show an awareness of the challenges facing you in your intended career and demonstrate
your commitment to a successful future.
With seven research camps currently operating in a range of unique and ecologically
important environments, Frontier offers you the opportunity to work alongside experienced
researchers on a variety of projects ensuring the perfect one can be found for you.
What to do on your dissertation
If you picture yourself as a field scientist at the forefront of biodiversity and
conservation research, working with Frontier on a carefully designed project could
be the perfect answer to your dissertation dilemma.
For those students with an interest in terrestrial ecosystems, ecology and biodiversity,
Frontier runs a number of research projects based in various locations across
the world.
If the
marine environment is more to your suiting, you can combine scuba training
with survey techniques on marine conservation and diving projects on remote marine
camps with other volunteers and Frontier staff.
Where to go on your dissertation
One of the most important aspects of your dissertation is your interest and enjoyment
in it. With over twenty years of experience in the field, Frontier specialises in
placing you on the perfect project where you will gain the experience you need to
complete your studies, add to your CV and further your career.
The original Frontier project, established in 1989, continues to run in the Kilombero
Valley of Tanzania, working towards the development of local conservation
and management strategies.
With Frontier’s work during the 1990s central to the establishment of the Mafia Island Marine Park on the east coast of Tanzania,
you can contribute to research that monitors the ongoing effectiveness of the marine
park.
The most recently established Frontier project, currently operating on the world
famous Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica, aims to monitor trends in populations of turtles,
river otters, primates and amphibians among others.
Bordered by two protected areas, the Frontier Madagascar terrestrial camp focuses on
lemurs, amphibians, reptiles and vegetation cover as indicators of ecosystem health
and change, while the marine camp focuses on the health of ecosystems in Diego Bay.
If the continent of Asia holds a particular charm for you, the key to your dissertation
success could lie in the Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve, the site of Frontier’s research
in Cambodia where significant areas of interest continue to
be the populations of fishing cats and leopard cats.
Operational since 2006, Frontier Fiji’s marine project is focussed on the long term monitoring
of coastal zone ecosystem health and the establishment of sustainable resource management
plans with local communities.
If any of these projects captures your imagination then check out our potential dissertation topics.
